Transitioning to a Role in a Different Industry

Having done this myself, here are some tips of how to get your foot in the door of a whole other sector.

  1. Research your interests.

  2. Connect with people in the field you would like to pursue and stay connected.

  3. Obtain the education piece.

  4. Build a portfolio.

  5. Refine your resume and LinkedIn profile.

  6. Set daily alerts on LinkedIn and Glassdoor.

  7. Enjoy the struggle of the process.

  8. Reframe your identity - you are not unemployed, you are a student and an enthusiast to the industry you would like to enter.

  9. Reflect on gaps.

  10. Take the time to pursue passion projects.

  11. Stay committed to the goal.
